CUSTOMS & EXCISE, CANADA
Port of Victoria, B.C.
Feb. 4, 1925.
F. C. Jones, Esq.
Inspector, Health of Animals Branch,
Department of Agriculture (Dom)
119 Pender Street West, Vancouver, B.C.
Sir:
Seizure at this port of a shipment of
15 cases Dried Duck from China.
I have to inform you of the seizure at this port
of fifteen cases of dried duck, invoiced as sausage from Sam
Wo Hing Co., Hong Kong, consigned to Wing Hong Yuen of this
city. The goods are held pending the instructions of the
Department.
For your information I would state that the duck
was packed beneath a covering of sausage, with the intention
of ensuring the importation into Canada as sausage.
The certificate given by the Veterinary Surgeon in Hong Kong covers sausage only, a certificate for dried
duck packed in China being unprocurable, hence the attempt
to smuggle this shipment.
Yours truly,
(Sd.) F. V. Davey
Collector, Customs & Excise.
